Why Should You Wear Prescription Eyeglasses?

Glasses are a reliable and fashionable way of correcting our vision. They can correct many vision defects when appropriate lenses are put in the frames and can also protect the eyes from harmful objects and UV rays when outside. Prescription glasses are different from over the counter reading glasses in that they are designed to sit directly infront of the centre of your pupil whereas over the counter glasses are not measured for this. Also, because most of our eyes have different prescriptions from each other, over the counter glasses will either be over correcting one eye or under correcting the other. Our eye doctors are capable of determining your ideal prescription and ordering glasses with those customized lenses in the frames.

Some reasons to wear prescription eyeglasses are:

  1. They are in style: Unlike years past, glasses are now a very trendy, popular fashion accessory and are becoming more acceptable amongst young people. While contact lenses are still very popular, the market for prescription and non prescription glasses has grown over the past 10 years.
  2. They correct your vision: The primary function of glasses is to help you focus better either at distance or near, or both. If you are having trouble seeing down the road when driving or straining your eyes when reading or on the computer, a pair of prescription glasses are needed to help you see better without having to strain your eyes.
  3. They make you look smarter: No matter what design or style of frame you choose, prescription glasses add a sophisticated element to your look. You might have noticed several celebrities who now pose with their glasses on, unlike in the past, because glasses invoke a more polished look to their personality.
  4. They make reading easier: With an increased demand on our eyes these days due to more computer and smart phone/tablet use, eyestrain and headaches are a very common issue reported by people who work in office situations. After an 8 hour shift it is not uncommon for people to lose focus especially when looking up from the computer. Glasses can help reduce the muscle strain within the eyes and help to better relax the eyes so they can focus from reading to distance much more easily .

These are just some of the benefits offered by prescription glasses. If you are suffering from any vision issues, get your eyes examined for an accurate prescription by one of our Optometrists at Westway Eyecare.
